Volunteer John Varley Administrative Coordinator
John Varley has enjoyed another exceptional season during 2008 and continues
to grow in popularity with visitors using the boat for public trips,
charter cruises and Santa Specials.
The boat has a committed group of experienced crew members who have made the
John Varley successful by their enthusiasm and willingness to make the boat
readily available to visitors. Now, to build on these achievements and to
ensure the boat's continued success, the Trust is seeking a John Varley
Administrative Coordinator to assist with the smooth running of the
trip boat's operation.
It is envisaged the Administrative Coordinator will:
- take enquiries and provide information on the boat's availability
- accept boat bookings including the receipt of payments
- arrange crewing details
- maintain records associated with the boat
- liaise with Tapton Lock Visitor Centre over the boat's operations
- work closely with the present JV Coordinator who will retain
responsibility for the boat's maintenance and act as a crew member.
John Varley is based on the Chesterfield section of canal and operates
mainly from Tapton Lock Visitor Centre but on occasions from the
Mill Public House, Station Road, Brimington, where it is moored.
The boat accepts a maximum of 12 passengers per trip.
The requirements of the post are minimal and no experience is
required. Full cooperation and support is available from the Trustees,
present Coordinator, crew members and from staff at Tapton Lock Visitor Centre.
The position requires someone with the time and facilities to take
booking enquiries, arrange crewing rotas and to continue with the
current arrangements for payment handling.
Any member who is interested in taking on the Administrative
Coordinator's role can obtain further details from Paul Unwin on
0114 2872594 or Dave Trickett on 01246 568880.
