Along with its sister boat Panther, Python will be leading the celebrity opening.
Ivor Caplan, Chair of the Inland Waterways Association, will be steering Panther whilst Audrey Smith OBE, former Chair of the IWA, will be on the tiller of Python as they enter Braunston Marina to the sound of Braunston church bells and the Daventry Brass Band.
Python was built in 1929 by W.J. Yarwoods to fulfil an order for “2 steel Canal boats of copper bearing steel” placed by Fellows, Morton & Clayton Ltd. She cost £366. The second boat was Panther, which is now owned by Coventry Canal Society; click here for details.
This is far from the first time that Python has been at Braunston. Click here for one of the old Python blogs. The two boats met up for the first time in their new roles at the Alvecote Festival in 2011; click here for that blog.
