The Chesterfield Canal - Photographic competition

30TH ANNIVERSARY 2006 PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION

Chesterfield's famous "Crooked Spire". Church of St Mary and All Saints (March 1991). Click to enlargeThe Photographic Competition has ended.

Below are the results of the 30th Anniversary Photographic Competition.

Many thanks to all those members who submitted entries for last year's photographic competition which proved to be a very popular anniversary event. In total almost eighty entries were received and it could not have been an easy task for the judge, Brian Davis, to decide the best two entries overall. The winner was, "The Chesterfield Canal at Thorpe Salvin Woods" by Val Unwin who wins £30 plus a copy of "Yorkshire Stone to London" by Chistine Richardson, the story of moving the stone to build the Houses of Parliament.

The runner-up was "The Chesterfield Canal - Bridge near Kiveton" taken by Louise Fox. Louise receives a cheque for £20 and a copy of "Yorkshire Stone to London".

Five entries were highly commended: two taken by Mrs. Scott, "Top Turnerwood Double" and "Oneslide Lock No. 40" and one each by Mark Ashmore, "Near Ranby", Chris Gee's, "Bridge Near Thorpe Salvin" and an unnamed entry showing the John Varley taken by Richard Lower. Well done to all these members and again, thank you to all who took part.

Our thanks are due also to the Competition judge, Brian Davis, of Chesterfield Photographic Society.
