The amazing stone lining in the canal bed at the tail of One Slide Lock.
This could be seen at all the locks up the flight, sometimes in stone and
sometimes in brick.
Presumably it was built to prevent the canal bed from being scoured when the
lock was emptied.
It is arched to prevent heave and also keeps the thin battered canal walls
apart.
