The Derbyshire section of the canal is owned by Derbyshire County Council and run by its Countryside Service. It is used regularly for canoeing, notably by Pleasley Vale Canoe & Activity Club and the Dukes Barn.

To get a licence for this western section, apply to Tapton Lock Visitor Centre. It is free for British Canoeing members, but you should still contact the Visitor Centre to give them your BC membership number and postcode.

For the eastern section from Kiveton Park to the River Trent, is owned by the Canal & River Trust, click here. Again it is free for BC members.

There have been a couple of epic trips that we have recorded on the website. To see them click here and click here.
