Donations, Legacies and Bequests
Our replacement milestones have proved a popular way for those
who love the canal to leave a permanent memorial, sometimes in specific
recognition of a loved one whose affection for the canal they wished
to commemorate.
Another well-favoured choice which can provide a memorial, as well
as a place for canal-lovers and walkers to rest, is a bench seat.
This can have an engraved commemorative plaque attached if required.
Finally, an interpretation panel, to an agreed design that matches
existing panels, can be installed at selected locations. The panel
will explain the history of the canal in that locality, together
with general information about the canal and its environs.
Another way that will help ensure the canal's future is to leave
a legacy for the canal in your will. This is easily accomplished
by adding a codicil to an existing will, or in considering this
possibility when you make a new will. Legacies are free of inheritance
tax, and may be in the form of a sum of money, specific items, or
the residue of your estate after family, friends and loved ones
have been provided for.
Everyone who remembers the canal in their will is helping to ensure
that future generations will continue to share and enjoy the pleasures
that make the canal and its unique environment such a special place.
Bequests should be made payable to the Chesterfield Canal Trust
