Canal & River Trust section – West Stockwith to Norwood Tunnel

Long term moorings on the eastern, C&RT section of the canal exist at the following locations:

Boaters may moor anywhere on the canal for up to 14 days unless local signage states otherwise. However for long stretches it is not possible to approach the bank either because of shallow water or bankside vegetation or both.

Short term moorings are available at:

  • West Stockwith Basin, bankside by the bridge (48 hours)
    (If these are full, ask the Lock Keeper if there is anywhere you can moor.)
  • Misterton Wharf, above Swallow Bridge (no. 62) (2 hours, no overnight mooring)
  • Walkeringham, opposite the Winding Hole
  • Wooden Beck, between Smith’s Bridge (no. 77) and Shaw Bridge (no. 76) (48 hours)
  • Above Shaw Lock (no. 62)
  • Drakeholes (48 hours)
  • Clayworth, Retford & Worksop Boat Club sometimes has visitor moorings available at £5 per night
  • Clayworth Common, near milestone 35
  • Hayton, Town End Bridge (no. 66) (24 hours)
  • Hayton, Gate Inn (PH) (48 hours)
  • Above Whitsunday Pie Lock (no. 60)
  • Retford, Hop Pole (PH) – £25 per night, refundable off you food bill in the pub
  • Retford, Grove Mill Bridge (no. 57) (48 hours)
  • Retford, below and above Carolgate Bridge (no. 56)

Derbyshire section – Staveley to Chesterfield

There are very few moorings on the western, Derbyshire section and these aren’t currently suitable for long term stays.
