| Staveley Town Basin on the BBC |
|
December 24th The new basin at Staveley has made the BBC News web site today (thanks to Pete Ramsell for bringing it to our attention). Although the article on the BBC web site doesn't link back to the Trust web site for further information, I have emailed the BBC giving them the details of the whereabouts of more information should anyone want it. Their piece has come from the Derbyshire County Council Press Office. Not everyone reading this may be aware that very few of the works at the Derbyshire end of the canal could have happened without Derbyshire County Council pushing the project forward in every respect. We are extremely grateful for all that they have done, especially Peter Storey and Selwyn Jones. We firmly believe that the incredible popularity of the canal, including the amazing interest in the new basin, justifies every penny spent. When the basin is full, we will be doing a Press Release of our own. In the meantime, we would like to add our own appreciation of some others who have been involved. These are Dr. Geraint Coles (the Chesterfield Canal Development Manager), the Chesterfield Canal Partnership and especially our own magnificent Chesterfield Canal Trust Volunteer Work Party who have spent years building the 600 metre long washwall from Mill Green. If you have not yet seen the full, illustrated story of the construction, click here. To see how quickly it is filling up, click here.
This is the basin slowly filling on Christmas Day. |
