Kiveton Park, Thorpe Locks, Turnerwood and Shireoaks

Our tripboat, Seth Ellis, turning at the Cascade at Kiveton Park.
The water here comes from the Harthill Reservoirs.

Thorpe Top Treble Locks (above) and Thorpe Bottom Treble Locks (below).

These two sets of treble locks are part of the historic Thorpe flight. The 15 locks, including four staircases, are all listed structures. They were restored in 2002/3. The restoration won the prestigious Volvo Penta Award in 2004 for "an outstanding contribution to conservation and safety on British Inland Waterways".

Between the sets of treble locks pictured above comes Lime House Lock.

At the bottom of the flight is Turnerwood Double.

Next comes Turnerwood itself, where you can buy an ice cream.

Now we come to Cinderhill Lock.

And finally we arrive at Shireoaks Marina.

And in 1954.

In May 2010, British Waterways helped us to get our 81 year old historic Learning Boat, Python, through Shireoaks Middle Lock where she had previously got stuck.

Approaching Shireoaks Bottom Lock.

British Waterways raised the level in the pound by putting some planks across the bywash. A couple more than this were needed in the end.

It was a tight squeeze getting her into the lock.

Turning into Shireoaks Marina.

Pulling into the mooring next to Phoenix.
