Ok, it's probably some High Speed rail planner's pipedream, but we've put together a virtual flypast over the entire navigable section of the canal from Kiveton to West Stockwith using Google Earth which does the entire journey in around 13 minutes - an effective speed of over 140mph! (Yes, I know it's not quite Eurostar speeds but the title grabbed your attention didn't it?!)

You'll need the free Google Earth plugin installed which is available for all three popular desktop platforms (Win / Mac / Linux).
