Cycling

You will see cyclists on the full length of the towpath. Officially however, cycling is only allowed on certain sections of the canal without a permit (see below). These are between Shireoaks and Worksop, which is part of Sustrans Cycle Route 6, and Chesterfield and Staveley, which is part of Sustrans Cycle Route 67. The latter is a spur of of the Trans Pennine Trail which runs from Sheffield via Rother Valley.

You may cycle anywhere on towpaths if you have a permit, which is free! Click here to obtain one.

Wherever you are cycling, please be very considerate of walkers.

Cyclists at the western end of the canal may be interested in the Chesterfield Cycle Campaign website www.chesterfieldcc.org.uk .

Click here for a map of the Trans Pennine Trail from Chesterfield to Rother Valley, Poolsbrook and the Arkwright Trail.

Click here for a circular route from Kiveton Park to Chesterfield and back.

The screenshot below is from the official British Waterways Cycling site. (Shame they can't spell Kiveton!)
