Publicity and promotions

The James Brindley (JB) is our publicity trailer.  It is taken to local, regional and national events where our volunteers talk to visitors about the Chesterfield Canal; its history and future, restoration and regeneration.  You can see where we are going to visit this year by viewing the Events Diary, and on these pages you will be able to follow our progress.

Stephen Thompson looks after JB, and Eva Thompson manages the fund-raising side of the operation from the comfort of a gazebo, under which she oversees all sorts of goodies, including a tombola, general sales and souvenirs and other assorted ideas for raising money.

Should you come across us at an event, please come and say"hello".  If you would like to help with this very public face of the Trust, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

JB's Back!

It's been a while since I was able to post a report on our activities with JB, but here is a catch-up on all we've been doing over the last couple of months.....

JB Rests But We Get Crafty at the Hub

Sunday 10th June - Not out with JB this weekend but another Craft Day at Hollingwood Hub.  After the very busy time last weekend on the Bank Holiday Monday we hoped it would be buzzing at the Hub again with a reasonable weather forecast.

Railway Day Draws Big Crowds and Party on the Rec!

Bank Holiday Monday June 4th and JB supported the 120th Birthday Anniversary of Staveley Works Station at Hollingwood Hub.  With an exhibition in the David Trickett Room, John Varley running boat trips, our new trip boat Hugh Henshall being painted and Nona's open for business, there was much on offer for the visiting public.

Serious Interest at Renishaw Community Day

June 2nd - Although for us this was a fairly quiet event compared to the last few weeks, we found that the people who took the time to visit JB were very keen to find out what is happening with the canal in Renishaw.

Food Festival Bakes in Glorious Weather!

JB and the sales team were back together again for the Derbyshire Food Festival after last weekend's (18, 19, 20 June) split between Barrow Hill and the Moira Furnace.
