4th June 2016
Today was the start of Dawn Rose’s epic journey from Shireoaks to the River Trent and back.
The first group were the Friends of Woodlands and Coachwood Green, plus a couple of volunteers from McDonald’s.
Before starting at Shireoaks, there was a briefing.
The group was well prepared with lots of collection buckets.
Following the obligatory team photo …..
….. the first two volunteers were put into their harnesses. They were Cllr Sybil Fielding and her daughter. Cllr Fielding is a very long-term supporter of the New Dawn Project.
Very soon they got into their stride.
The Dawn Rose team took the boat through the locks.
What a super following along the next bit from Shireoaks Locks to Doefield Dun Lock.
Approaching Haggonfields Lock there was another pair in harness.
You can see all the supporters gathered around Haggonfields Lock.

The McDonald’s volunteers took up the hauling for the following pound.
This is coming out of Deep Lock. Note the towrope marks rubbed into the stone on the bottom left of the arch.
Upon arrival at Stret Lock, everyone took a well-earned coffee break before pressing on to the Priory Centre.
