The Chesterfield Canal Partnership

Turnerwood BasinThe Chesterfield Canal Partnership

The Chesterfield Canal Trust is a founder member of the Chesterfield Canal Partnership. This is made up of

  • Derbyshire County Council,
  • Chesterfield Borough Council,
  • North East Derbyshire District Council,
  • Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council,
  • Bassetlaw District Council,
  • Nottinghamshire County Council,
  • British Waterways,
  • statutory and non-statutory bodies,
  • the voluntary sector and private enterprise,

and is fully committed to the protection and restoration of the Chesterfield Canal.

All members share the belief that the canal constitutes a major recreational amenity, tourism and natural history resource and is an important heritage feature. The Partnership will protect the canal for its natural history and its historic value, and its wider recreational potential will be developed and managed to suit the requirements of a variety of users, whilst conserving the ecological and general amenity interest of the canal environment.

The Partnership and its various subgroups meets regularly to progress the restoration of the Chesterfield Canal.
