The Well Dressing at Old Whittington this year depicts the Chesterfield Canal. A magnificent image was created to combine with the Old Whittington Gala.
The image shows a boat cruising along the canal about to enter a lock. It was done by a new group of ladies called The Old Whittington Well Dressing Group. There are eighteen members whose previous experience ranges from many years to complete beginners.Read More

We have been able to print some fairly impressive Press Releases over the years, but nothing matches this one. We can only express our admiration for the persistence and sheer tenacity of these young people. Congratulations to each and every one of them.
Members of 7th Retford (St Swithun’s) Scout Group walked “The Cuckoo Way” over four days in February half-term, following the route of the Chesterfield Canal.
At a Scout meeting, it was agreed that the route would be split into three sections. Two days of the walk would follow the canal and would finish in Retford each evening so that the group could sleep overnight in the Scout Headquarters. The third day would see the group completing the Chesterfield to Kiveton section of The Cuckoo Way.Read More

The Chesterfield Canal Trust was devastated by the untimely death of David Trickett on 4th November, aged 64. He had fallen ill soon after the Canal Festival in July.Read More

Margaret and Brian Limb of Old Whittington, Chesterfield, wanted a special way to mark their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Both are members of the Chesterfield Canal Trust. They often walk down to Staveley to watch the Trust’s Volunteer Work Party in operation.
Instead of personal gifts for their anniversary, they asked all their friends and family to give money. They then donated it all to go towards the further restoration of the canal.
On Thursday they went to Mill Green at Staveley where they met Terry Berridge, who organises the Work Party. They presented him with a cheque for £600.Read More
